ushered in the birth of the New Testament Church
that should be called by the name of Jesus.   It was also Peter that Jesus asked who he thought that He was.  Peter's response to this was the "Anointed", the "begotten" of the living God, in Biblical terms, "The Christ, the son of the living God.  Jesus said, "God is a spirit, and they that worship HIM must worship Him in spirit and in truth."  The scripture also says that God is not a man, therefore not a person.  He is a Spirit!  There are several instances in which the Bible states that God is one, therefore mankind can address him with one saving name.  There are no instances in the Bible where the Lord is spoken of as "three in one".  In the Books of Acts, men were encouraged to save themselves for the untoward (crooked or perverse) generation!

We see that in Matthew the first  (1st) chapter, that the Holy Ghost that gave seed for Jesus to be born and that He was Father in that He was a parent.  This is the Greek meaning of the word.  The Holy Ghost became the father of Jesus when He overshadowed Mary and caused her to become pregnant.  By this therefore, when Jesus said "my father", we can easily say that He meant the Holy Ghost.  Then He said I and my father are one, John 10:30 and when you've seen me, you've seen the Father.  The word one there, means one not a unity as some will contend.  This agrees with God's old Testament assessment of Himself.

The Apostles that walked with Jesus knew that God is one.  "Hear O Israel, the LORD our God is one". Therefore when it was stated in Matthew 28:19 to baptize in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost, Peter as well as the rest knew that the name sought after in this application was "Jesus".  Furthur it says in
Act 4:12  Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved..  This is why the baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins.

Why the Apostles Baptized
in the Name of Jesus.

When Jesus Christ walked this earth, He selected twelve (12) men to be apostles and to carry the salvation message into all the world.  During this time, salvation was only of the Jews, but Jesus being a Jew brought in a new covenant and testament, or a new law in which mankind could be won back to God.  Not just for the Jew, but for the non-Jew also.  In ushering this new covenant through the Lord's suffering and death on Calvary, Jesus told His apostles that :  "And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem .  Luke 24:47  "

He also commanded his apostles" Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the  name  of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Teaching them to observe all things
whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Matthew 28:19  & 20
By this scripture, we see that men are commanded
to baptize in
one singular name, according to the understanding of the language spoken.  Not three names, but one singular name is called for that will represent the name of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.  Jesus also told Peter that he, Peter,  was given the  method of entrance  into kingdom of God and Christ, and that his (Peter) decisions concerning the entrance of the kingdom of God would be upheld in heaven.  No other person was given this authority.  Not from that day, until this.  Only Peter was trusted by the Lord to decipher this information at that time.

"And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Matthew 16:19"

The Apostle Paul was the only other that was taught the doctrine, via Jesus Christ, himself.
In the first book of John, we see that God is one God.  He is not sectioned off in to more than one person.  For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are ONE.  1John 5:7   There is no religion known that does not believe that the Word spoken of here is Jesus Christ.

In Acts 2:38 we see that Peter commanded that men should be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. This
