Why the Apostles Baptized in the Name of Jesus.
When Jesus Christ walked this earth, He selected twelve (12) men to be apostles and to carry the salvation message into all the world. During this time, salvation was only of the Jews, but Jesus being a Jew brought in a new covenant and testament, or a new law in which mankind could be won back to God. Not just for the Jew, but for the non-Jew also. In ushering this new covenant through the Lord's suffering and death on Calvary, Jesus told His apostles that : "And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem . Luke 24:47 "
He also commanded his apostles" Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Matthew 28:19 & 20 By this scripture, we see that men are commanded to baptize in one singular name, according to the understanding of the language spoken. Not three names, but one singular name is called for that will represent the name of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Jesus also told Peter that he, Peter, was given the method of entrance into kingdom of God and Christ, and that his (Peter) decisions concerning the entrance of the kingdom of God would be upheld in heaven. No other person was given this authority. Not from that day, until this. Only Peter was trusted by the Lord to decipher this information at that time.
"And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Matthew 16:19"
The Apostle Paul was the only other that was taught the doctrine, via Jesus Christ, himself. In the first book of John, we see that God is one God. He is not sectioned off in to more than one person. For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are ONE. 1John 5:7 There is no religion known that does not believe that the Word spoken of here is Jesus Christ.
In Acts 2:38 we see that Peter commanded that men should be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. This
