But everyone has an enemy, and this was the first one. The serpent was the most subtle of all of the animals in the garden.
· Gen 3.2 And the woman answered him, saying of the fruit of the trees that are in paradise we do eat; · 3.3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of paradise, God hath commanded us that we should not eat; and that we should not touch it, lest perhaps we die. · 3.4 And the serpent said to the woman: No, you shall not die the death. · 3.5 For God doth know that in what day soever you shall eat thereof, your eyes shall be opened; and you shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
Everyone is influenced by the first family, the whole world. When God created man in His own image, male and female, they were also created with their own will. If they had no will of their own, there would be a piece missing from their individuality as the image creatures of Almighty God, who counsels with his own will. Though Adam and Eve failed the test, they were still not without free will to decide what they wanted to do. The scripture says that "God tempts no man, but that we are tempted when we are drawn away of our lust and enticed. It is our own desire that we are tempted with, and then afterward we make the decision whether or not to yield to the temptation.
When satan tempted Eve in the Garden, he simply set before her things that he surmised would entice her. This would be things that would be of interest to her own fleshly desire. She knew the command that of all the trees in the Garden she could eat of, there was one that was excluded. But he appealed to " the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life". These things are enticing mankind even now.
